(5) Obeying God is for our benefit more than for God's
benefit. What if Noah had refused to build the ark?
God would have lost Noah and the animals, but Noah
would have lost everything.
(34) It is hard to pray to God when you are running
away from God. How can you be running away if he is
close enough to hear you pray? If you try to run away
from God, you may actually run into his open arms.
You may thing you are escaping from God when you are
actually escaping to God. Jonah learned this lesson
as he tried to run away from God, but he discovered
that God was already there ahead of him. You can't
hide from God, for he is everywhere.
(36) Loving a lovely person makes sense. Loving an
unlovely person defies human logic. From a human
perspective, we can love only the lovely. From God's
perspective, we must love the unlovely also, for He
loves both, and so must we if we want to be like him.
(41) Food without labor; fame without effort;power
without service---we are all tempted with the same
temptations that Satan threw at Jesus. Temptation is
most vicious when we are most vulnerable. Satan works
with weakness to further weaken us. God works with
weakness to further strengthen us.
(60) Prayer is a multifaceted jewel. In Jesus' prayer,
he prayed for food, gave praise to God, asked forgiveness
for sins, sought God's will, and made other requests.
Prayer is not just getting, but giving; not just asking,
but praising; not just seeking my will, but seeking
God's will.
(100) The Creator of the Universe yearns for us to live in
his 'Home' in heaven if we choose to do so. His love for us
restrains him from forcing us to go there. Love is not love
if it is forced, and choice is not choice if it is mandated.
Love is love when it is a choice. The best alternatives are
motivated by love.
